Mary Chen graduated from the Shanghai University of Engineering and Technology with a Bachelor's degree in China. In 1996, as first generation immigrants, she and her husband Daniel moved to Los Angeles to seek a better life. In the 3rd year, they founded a small company. As the business grew, the office moved to Alhambra, and then again to Temple City. In 2004, their son Ellis was born. It was very exciting for them to become parents and learn and grow with their child. Mary knows that education is our future, and she is committed to helping every student become successful.
Marie Chen, Director
Principal Marie Chen graduated Taiwan National Normal University with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and Chinese Literature. She moved to California in 1990 and established Futurelink School in 1994. In 2009, she earned a Master’s degree in Theater Arts from California State University, Los Angeles. Her dissertation topic and ongoing interest is using creative dramatics in education. She has been teaching for 30 years.
Something you may not know about Principal Marie: she used to sing Chinese opera, she once played a clown on stage, and she used to be a television scriptwriter!
Cynthia Franchino, Teacher
Ms. Cynthia Franchino graduated from California State University, Los Angeles in 2007 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She is currently working towards her California Teaching Credential. Ms. Cynthia has been teaching at Futurelink since 2009.
LILY PEREZ, TEACHER
Ms. Lily Perez graduated from California State University, San Bernardino in 2014 with a Bachelor's degree in Communications (Concentration: Mass Communications) and a Minor in English. During her college years she worked as a tutor tutoring students in the K-12 system. She loves working with children and is passionate about higher education.
Ms. Perez loves coffee, films, concerts and writing! There is nothing better than the creative written word!
Jennifer Yau, Teacher
Ms. Yau graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Microbial Biology in 2015. She has always enjoyed working with kids volunteering as a tutor when she was in college. She is currently prepping to apply to optometry school--her interest in optometry stems from her love of design (visuals) and science! Ms. Yau loves scenic hikes (and views in general), poetry, Studio Ghibli movies, and tea!
William Horlacher, Teacher
Mr. William Horlacher graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2016 with a Bachelor's of Arts in History w/ an Education Studies minor. He is currently enrolled in the Masters of Arts in Teaching program at the University of Southern California and aspires to become an elementary school teacher.
Mr. Horlacher enjoys reading, writing, visiting museums and historical sites, hiking, and relaxing at the beach!
Eman Salameh, Teacher
An alumni of Futurelink, Ms. Eman Salameh is currently pursuing her bachelor's degree in English at California State University, Los Angeles. She intends to continue her educational career in order to obtain a PhD in the same field. During her first few years in college at Pasadena City College, she was fortunate to be chosen to present one of her research papers at the Border of Diversity conference held at PCC and the HTCC conference at the University of California, Irvine in 2015. Armed with her three Associate Degrees, she is excited to teach and give back to the afterschool program that helped her become the person she is today. She hopes to guide the students on their educational path and show them that learning can be fun. Some fun facts about Ms. Eman are: she loves coffee, is an aspiring writer of fiction, enjoys drawing anime, and hopes to travel the world.
Emily Lau, Teacher
Ms. Emily Lau graduated from University of La Verne in 2017 with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism. When she was in second grade, Ms. Emily attended Futurelink and was a student for more than five years. She loves dogs, music and writing.
